Craig Murphy Photo....Redefining Senior Portraiture

Photography sessions are always fun! One thing to remember when you come here for your studio time. I am not a high volume 'yearbook' or 'school' photographer. Thank goodness! This is a quality, portrait/commercial studio. You will get your yearbook photo and it will be up to your schools specs but it will come out of a creative, collaborative session between the two of us. Get Creative!! Your time will include a short clothing/idea consultation, about 8-12 head and shoulder poses in one outfit if you want to keep it short and then if desired, poses with up to two additional outfit changes and your own personal props. Figure you will be here at the studio anywhere from one half to one and a half hours. See you here!! (pricing pdf)
Here are some tips to help make your session a success.
Bring some casual and some more formal clothing with you in a variety of colors. Long sleeves are MUCH better than short sleeves.
Stripes and patterns do not work well. They can take away from your face as the focal point in the photograph. Long sleeve solids or very subtle prints are usually the most flattering in portraits. Coordinate your outfit from head to toe and try to maintain a similar tonal range in your clothing. Avoid mixing lights & darks. A white shirt alone without a jacket is also not a good idea.
Medium to dark clothes look the best on dark backgrounds. Medium to light colors look the best on lighter colored backgrounds. Bring clothes that will work with the backgrounds you prefer.
Black, khaki, pink, orange, navy, tan, gold, burgundy, dark yellow are good outdoor colors.
Here are some ideas for props you might want to bring to show your personality: Musical Instrument...... Leather Jacket...... Uniform/ball/helmet/shoes/stick/bat...... Hats...... Sports Equipment...... Sunglasses...... Poms/megaphone.
Some other tips:
Glasses. Lenses need to be removed for best results to avoid glare. Borrow a similar pair from your optometrist?
If you can get by without contacts all the better as they can cloud your eyes a little but if you need to its ok to wear them.
Sunburn will require a rescheduling unless tan lines don't bother you. If you want them removed an additional retouching fee will be quoted.
Pets are welcome but let me know ahead of time. Someone needs to be here to handle them during your session and they can't be tied up outside.
